How the McGuires Came to Greenfield
In the spring of 1923, Thomas and Margaret McGuire packed everything they owned into a single wagon and set out west. They were drawn by word of fertile land and a fresh start. After weeks on the road, they settled in the Greenfield valley, building first a small farmhouse and then, over the years, the homestead that still stands today. That first winter was hard, but the family pulled together — a pattern that would define the McGuires for generations.

The Family Business
In 1952, Daniel McGuire opened a small hardware store on Main Street. What began as a single counter and a box of nails grew over thirty years into a gathering place for the whole town. Three of his children worked the counter after school, and the store became where neighbors swapped news as much as they bought tools. The store finally closed in 1989, but the old sign still hangs in the family barn.

The Reunion Tradition
The first official McGuire reunion was held in 1978 at Greenfield Park. Margaret McGuire, then in her seventies, insisted that the whole family come together at least once a year — 'before we forget each other's names,' she said. That single picnic grew into the annual reunion we still celebrate today, now drawing cousins from four states.
